2025 is definitely the year to not necessarily represent your home country. Ireland is being represented by a Norwegian soloist, Sweden by a Finnish trio and Germany have selected the Austrian sibling duo Abor & Tynna. Having taken their babysteps towards a recording career in 2016 with their home made soundcloud uploads, the duo have been steadily building their presence on the music scene since 2020. Earlier this year they released their debut album Bittersüß (a killer record!) and soared to victory on Chefsache ESC. To learn a little more, we caught up with Abor & Tynna.
Abor & Tynna
Hi, first and foremost, how are you?
Hello, we are both doing great! We are really happy that so many people have joined our adventure since Chefsache ESC and we are excited for Basel.
What an exciting 2025 so far... You must be thrilled with how it's playing out. What's been the highlight?
It is exciting indeed! It‘s incredible how one of our album tracks just casually turned into Germany's Eurovision Song. Absolutely crazy! Our highlight has been the Amsterdam pre-party so far. We met a lot of awesome artists and had a lot of fun!
We absolutely love Baller. Tell us a little about the process behind the scenes in creating the song?
The week before we wrote Baller, we made a lot of sad melancholic songs about Tynna's break-up. We had enough and decided to change our perspective. That's how the idea for Baller was born. Additionally Abor wanted to specifically make a song with vocal chops as an effect.
Did you always intend the song for Eurovision?
No, originally we wrote a song in English but we changed it last second due to the suggestion of Stefan Raab (he's responsible for Germany's Eurovision act selection)
Have you always been a big fan of Eurovision?
Pretty much since Loreen's Euphoria in 2012!
Who is your favourite Eurovision entry of all time?
Tynna: Loreen-Euphoria
Abor: Mans Zelmerlöw- Heroes
Germany has had a very strong history at Eurovision. Do you have a favourite German performance?
Yes!! Lena in 2010 with Satellite.
If you had to file it between two other songs, what would they be and why...?
Probably the English song we originally intended and one of our other album tracks called Babylon
Who do you feel is your stiffest competition?
'Competition' is a strong word but we think Austria and the UK are very very good this year!
What can we expect from your Basel performance?
Everything!
What is your Eurovision ambition?
Of course we want to win the ESC but at least Top 10 would be a win for us too!
If you could record with one other Eurovision artist, who would you work with?
We would love to work with for example Louane, Klavdia, Remember Monday or Kyle Alessandro. But honestly all the artists are really cool so we would love to collab with each and everyone of them.
And lastly, aside from Eurovision, what other 2025 plans do you have?
In October we are going on tour through Germany, Austria and Switzerland but we might extend it to other countries later. Also we are going to release new singles.
