It’s that time of the year again – The Summer Reading Challenge is here!

The national Summer Reading Challenge, coordinated by The Reading Agency, is run in 95% of UK public libraries. With around 800,000 children aged 4-11 taking part, the Summer Reading Challenge is the biggest national reading initiative. It runs in libraries throughout the summer holidays, with incentives, activities and events designed to create a real buzz around children's reading. The challenge is simple - to read six or more library books over the summer.

How do children sign up?

Children or their parents/carers can enrol at the library by filling in a registration card.

What books can the children read?

The Summer Reading Challenge is designed for children of all reading abilities aged 4 to 11. They can read any books they like - fact books, stories, joke books, picture books - it's up to them. Audio books count too. As long as they are borrowed from the library, they all count.

Do the children who finish the challenge receive anything?

Yes, everybody gets a READY, SET, READ starter poster when they begin, and there are stickers and rewards when they have read two books, four books and six books. There is also a medal and a certificate for everyone that finishes.

The challenge begins at Skipton Library on Saturday 15th July and will run until Saturday 9th September.
