What a show this was! Opening night of Tina: The Tina Turner Musical had the sell-out audience hooked from the word go. The show is dedicated to the life of global superstar Tina Turner: her heartbreaking upbringing, her fight for survival in an abusive relationship, the rebuilding of her career from nothing and ultimately becoming one of the most renowned female artists in history.

Elle Ma-Kinga N’zuzi gave an incredible performance as Turner; her powerful vocals commanded the stage as she belted out all her biggest hits, and in contrast, her deeply emotional, quieter moments were just as impressive. Every member of the supporting cast was outstanding. Special mentions must go to David King-Yombo as Ike Turner and Claude East as Gran Georgeanna, who plays an important role in Tina Turner’s early life and upbringing. These two acted and sang with intense energy, passion and emotion. And be sure to watch out for the young Anna Mae actress, a definite star of the future. The costumes are nothing short of amazing. They are glittering and bold and perfectly capture Tina Turner’s iconic style through the decades.

The choreography is sharp and full of energy, bringing each number to life with dynamic movement that keeps the audience completely engaged. Behind a curtain for most of the performance is a brilliant live band, whose powerful sound gives the show a real concert-like atmosphere.

The final musical numbers had the audience on their feet, clapping, singing and rollin' on the river!

This musical is a story of resilience, survival and triumph against the odds…it is SIMPLY THE BEST! We give it 5 stars.
