When Noel and Liam Gallagher walked onto the stage hand in hand at Manchester’s Heaton Park, it was a sight that many thought they would never see. The band split up in 2009, reuniting this year for a series of concerts that predictably sold out in minutes.
The 80,000-strong crowd at Heaton Park spanned generations—many weren't even alive when Oasis released
(What's the Story) Morning Glory in 1995, yet here they stood alongside longtime devotees, all united in bucket hats and the occasional parka, ready to sing with unrestrained passion.
Opening with
Hello, the band immediately commanded the venue despite the track's controversial sampling of a Gary Glitter song. Any qualms about the inclusion dissolved as the entire audience erupted into a thunderous singalong, swept up in music's undeniable power.
The back-to-back delivery of their anthems revealed the true scope of Oasis's cultural impact during their 1990s heyday. As

Some Might Say, thousands of phones rose skyward—those that hadn't been lost to the floor in the mayhem. The atmosphere crackled with the intensity of a football stadium, reminiscent of their beloved Manchester City lifting the FA Cup, as fans surrendered completely to the moment.
Cigarettes and Alcohol came with a T. Rex riff; the track is yet another anthem that swayed the sold-out audience. The power and presentation, along with the audience response, is yet again another reaffirmation of the strength of rock ‘n’ roll.

Half the World Away benefited from a brass section, whilst
D’You Know What I Mean still sounded as elegant as ever on this hot summer night where the sun had its (bucket) hat on. Apart from some football taunts to the Manchester United fans, the onstage banter was kept to a minimum.
As three of the biggest tracks closed this celebratory homecoming,
Don’t Look Back in Anger, Wonderwall, and
Champagne Supernova the night had been the homecoming the band and fans deserved that will become the stuff of legends.
