Joe Sib
Hi, how are you?
I’m doing great — focused, fired up, and feeling thankful. I’ve been hitting the stage hard and pouring everything into this new show. Honestly, I feel like I’m in the middle of a creative rebirth.
We are so excited about your new show… Tell us the story behind it…
Thanks, I appreciate that. The show is called California Calling — it’s a mix of stand-up and storytelling, all based on my real life growing up punk rock in the ‘80s California suburbs. It’s about how one day can change everything. There’s comedy, heart, and a message that’s pretty personal: if your big day hasn’t happened yet, it still can.
And what is your key ambition?
To connect. Whether it’s five people in a coffee shop or 500 in a theatre, I want to leave people feeling seen, inspired, and laughing their asses off. And to keep doing it in a way that’s real — no gimmicks, no chasing trends, just truth and fire.
Let’s talk music. Give us a song & artist (and a reason) that makes you… Smile: Here Comes Your Man by Pixies – That riff, that energy, that weird joy. Instant grin.
Cry:Hurt by Johnny Cash – The weight in his voice, especially knowing it was near the end. Hits deep.
Laugh:King of Rock by Run-DMC – That line “There’s three of us, but we’re not the Beatles” still cracks me up. Just pure swagger and fun.
Feel nostalgic:Suburban Home by Descendents – That’s the anthem of my youth right there. Takes me straight back to backyard parties and skate ramps.
Dance in the kitchen:Uptown Funk”by Bruno Mars – You can’t not move to that. Even if you’re just making eggs.
Sing in the shower:Don’t Stop Believin by Journey – Yeah, cliché, I know… But come on. That chorus was made for echoey tile walls.
Message a friend immediately: London Calling by The Clash – Makes me want to check in with my old bandmates or someone who gets it.
What was the best gig you have ever been to?
Seeing the Ramones in a small club when I was a teenager. That changed my life. They were everything — fast, raw, and tight — and they gave me permission to dream big.
Watch Joe in action:
What stage have you not performed on that you dream of?
The Sydney Opera House. Not just for the prestige but because doing my punk rock storytelling show in that space would be the wildest full-circle moment.
What would be your dream collaboration?
Working with Mike D from Beastie Boys. Comedy, music, visuals — the guy’s brain is on another level. I’d love to build something hybrid and weird and meaningful for him.
Lastly, you can achieve one thing by the end of the year, what is it?
To perform California Calling in a packed room where every person walks out saying, “That made me feel something real.” That’s the real win".
