How did you get involved with the dance music and club scene?

I have always liked dance music tracks. When I was studying classical music in Manchester, I used to go to the clubs there at the weekend. My husband, who also has classical training, now works as a DJ alongside me at my gigs.

When did you start playing the saxophone?

I started off playing when I was ten years old. I kept asking my parents to buy me a saxophone, as it is an instrument that I have always been fascinated with.

Are there any new DJs that excite you?

The ones that are making big impressions now are Fred Again, Seamus Haji and, of course, Calvin Harris.

Ibiza has always been a big influence on dance music. Are you going over there this summer?

Every Thursday I have a residency at Ibiza Rocks Hotel in San Antonio; I play my saxophone and mix the sound up with the current dance tracks.

Do you think it is getting more difficult for the club scene in this country?

A lot are really struggling now with new legislation, the noise limitations, and the increase in the minimum wage. The government does not seem to appreciate the whole infrastructure of the dance music and club scene—it employs a lot of people and has a bigger impact on the economy than many realise.

What can people expect from the Ibiza Anthems concert in Leeds this summer that you are performing at?

People can expect a spectacular show with great classic Ibiza tracks, a huge stage including dancers, a series of drummers and the atmosphere of a hot night in Ibiza – I hope the British weather is good on the night! I know that northern crowds are some of the best in the country; I am confident that the Leeds audience will not let anyone down.

Ministry of Sound Ibiza Anthems with Ellie Sax & Friends comes to Leeds – Millennium Square on Friday 25th July 2025.
