George Michael Singers A Fast-Paced Set

George Michael Singers
In the week that George Michael was posthumously nominated for an Ivor Novello Award for the most performed work (Last Christmas), the George Michael Singers arrive at The Alexandra, Birmingham, to share their stories and celebrate one of the world's greatest selling singer/songwriters, who sadly passed just over 8 years ago.

Shirley Lewis, Jo Garland and Jay Henry are the George Michael Singers. They are not a tribute act. They are three of his loyal friends, who spent extensive periods of their professional lives on the road with George as his backing vocalists but also in the studio performing on many a hit record. Their voices are known by George's audience, and the show is a celebration of their lives with the musical icon.

From the very outset of the show, it is clear that the show, which is MD'd by none other than former Wham member Steve Sidwell, is an emotional rollercoaster ride for fans and performers alike. While the music is there to be celebrated, this show is more about the bond and connection to one of the most feted songwriters of all time.

As the trio, who had worked together on the 25 Live, Cover to Cover and Symphonica Tours, shared their journeys to working with George and memories from the tours, what was most compelling was their true bond. The result is not a cash-cow tour, but one fuelled by passion and love for their shared friend.

The trio flawlessly performs some of George's greatest hits in a fast-paced set. While Jo Garland may regret not appearing in the Fast Love video, and Shirley Lewis fights back the tears in her closing tribute, the night will be remembered by the audience for its pure joy and overwhelmingly on-point vocals.

Having delivered a tender rendition of Father Figure, a striking Careless Whisper and lush Spinning The Wheel, the trio close with an encore of Faith and Freedom! '90 that fills the theatre with sheer, unadulterated glee.

George Michael singers are a rare act. They are fuelled by their love for their former creative collaborator and his legacy in the most raw and honest way.
