Crown Paints has revealed a vibrant new mural in the heart of Darwen, continuing its tradition of using public art to reflect key cultural moments and meaningful causes.

The latest mural delivers a bold, eye-catching statement around Crown Paints’ purpose-driven commitment to sustainability, positivity and social impact.

The new design forms part of the paint manufacturer’s CSR initiative Project Possible, a campaign that underscores Crown’s mission to paint a better, braver and more beautiful world. The mural invites passersby to pause, reflect, and engage - aiming to quite literally stop them in their tracks and spark conversation.

Embedded in the mural is a QR code allowing people to download Crown Paints’ Project Possible report, delving into the initiatives making real impact in communities across the UK.

At the heart of the mural, created by Manchester-based artists Dan Gudgeon and Oskar Walin, is the word ‘kinder’, set against a lush green colour palette. Green, symbolising nature, harmony and renewal, speaks to the brand’s focus on sustainability and wellbeing. Beneath this, a relaxed figure reclines peacefully, immersed in a world of good vibes and music - a visual metaphor for the peace that comes with a kinder, more harmonious planet.

Above Crown Paints’ iconic logo, a figure paints forward into a better future, representing the brand’s ongoing mission: to paint the world better.

The mural is inspired by the iconic packaging from the Crown Paints Walls & Ceilings can, designed by designer and illustrator Abi Langridge, AKA PAPERFACE, which brings Crowns’s brand purpose of empowering people to paint their own possible to life.

Katie McLean, Senior Director for Segment Management & Crown E-Commerce, at Crown Paints “As a business that’s proudly been part of the Darwen community for generations, we wanted this mural to reflect not only our deep local roots, but also our ongoing commitment to community, sustainability, charity and culture. It’s about celebrating who we are, where we’ve come from, and the positive impact we aim to make every day.”

Dan Gudgeon, one of the mural’s artists said: “It was a privilege to create this mural for Crown Paints - not just as a piece of art, but as a statement of intent. We wanted it to feel uplifting and thought-provoking, something that brings people together and sparks conversation. The design celebrates harmony, creativity and a sense of moving forward with purpose - a reflection of the positive change that can happen when community and sustainability go hand in hand.”

Crown’s Darwen mural wall has become a much-anticipated public canvas for moments of national significance. In previous years, it has paid tribute to King Charles’ coronation and honoured NHS key workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
