Chatting With Breeze
Brothers Albert, Harry and Alfred Anderson teamed up with their mate Declan Rodgers to form Breeze a couple of years ago. Quickly releasing their debut single, Touch The Sky, they immediately caught attention with the 90s driven Britpop sound that underpinned the single. Since then they have caught the ear of actor Robert Carlyle, who has championed the authenticity of their sound. Their latest single, She's Got It, is already building buzz, so we caught up with Albert to learn a little more...
Hi, first and foremost, how are you?
Very well thanks ! This is Albert Anderson from Yorkshire band Breeze!
For those not in the know, tell us about Breeze?
We are a four piece indie rock band from the city of Hull! We formed back in September 2021 and released our debut song
Touch The Sky in October that same year. We have since released three other songs and have supported James Arthur and are performing at our first major mainstream festival ‘Y Not 2023’! Three of us in the band are brothers and the fourth member a close friend!
Your latest single is She’s Got It. What was the writing process for the song?
She’s Got It, many people have said from listening to it that it sounds like a song from the 90s or has a 90s feel. It's an era that plays a big part in our musical influences and the song was actually written in the 90s by the father of us three brothers: Richard Anderson! He wrote it back when all he had was a small 50 watt Marshall amp and fake Gibson SG stood in the middle of his room full blast with a packet of cigarettes and a bit of paper to write the lyrics. The song isn’t particularly about anybody, just a girl who is the most drop dead gorgeous girl you have ever seen and not only does she have the look but she has the vibe!
How do you decide what songs should be singles?
When it comes down to deciding what songs are singles it’s quite an easy process for us. Usually you can hear the song and hear the potential it has for it to be remembered - which is usually a quality a single should have!
How typical of your sound is ‘She’s Got It’?
I would say the sound for
She’s Got It has a nostalgic feel of the 90s. However it also has a refreshing up-to-date new sound to it. We like to mmix it up on all our songs.
The song has a real 90s indie pop feel to it. Who are your key influences?
Our key influences as a band span throughout all eras from the 60s to the 00s but, for us as a band, the ones that spring to mind are Oasis, Arctic Monkey’s, The Beatles, Kasabian and Pulp.
The single aside, what are your plans for 2023?
2023 is a busy year for us we are heading over to ‘Y Not’ festival in July to play the allotment stage! We are then at Humber street sesh on the BBC Introducing stage in August and have a few support slots throughout the festival season and to end the year we are planning a tour of UK!
If you could achieve one thing this year, what would it be?
I think something to achieve this year would be to become the next big band to come out of England. Music is in need of a desperate great sound and that’s what we have!
Can we expect to see you live somewhere soon?
You can expect to see us live at ‘Y Not festival’ 27th -30th July and at Humber street sesh on the 12 August!
Lastly, if you could collaborate with one artist, who would you choose?
If we could collaborate with one artist I think it would have to be Serge from Kasabian just because some of the experimental ideas he has and the whole sound of their songs mixing old school rap with indie rock is just mega!
