Bingley Little Theatre Brings Sherlock Holmes Thriller To The Stage

Bingley Little Theatre is set to stage Sherlock Holmes: The Valley of Fear, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's gripping final Holmes novel, in a new adaptation running from Tuesday 30 June to Saturday 4 July.

The production, adapted by Nick Lane and directed by Paul Chewins, follows Holmes and Watson as they unravel a coded message, navigate a trail of baffling clues and confront a secret society, all while the shadow of Professor Moriarty looms over proceedings.

Spanning the period between 1870 and 1890, the story takes audiences from the familiar surroundings of 221B Baker Street to an ancient, moated manor house, before crossing the Atlantic to the bleak Vermissa Valley in Pennsylvania.

The production promises adventure, mystery and Holmes' trademark deductive brilliance, brought to life with original live music and atmospheric staging.

Director Paul Chewins, a former Artistic Director at Bingley Little Theatre, is a familiar face in the local theatre scene as both director and actor.

Sherlock Holmes is played by Rob Edwards, whose first role with the company was in Pygmalion alongside Chewins, who played Professor Higgins.

Dr Watson is portrayed by David Ayres, a professional actor and award-winning director who currently serves as the theatre's Artistic Director.

Brad Moxon, who has been performing at Bingley Little Theatre since 2000, takes on several roles in the production including Jack McMurdo.

Paul Rookes, part of a family with a long association with the venue, also plays multiple roles, as does Liz Hall, who in addition to acting also contributes to the theatre as a director, prompt, props assistant, board operator, press officer and social media support.

Sherlock Holmes: The Valley of Fear runs in the Main Auditorium from Tuesday 30 June to Saturday 4 July at 7.30pm, with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm. The show is suitable for all ages.
