Sheffield's Sheaf (Digital) Poetry Festival Returns In November!

Sheaf Poetry Festival returns in November boasting a vibrant programme of readings, workshops and panel discussion delivered by world-class poets/artists and local Sheffield voices.

Sheaf Poetry Festival has been part of Sheffield’s artistic and cultural landscape for almost a decade. Formerly known as Sheffield Poetry Festival and South Yorkshire Poetry Festival, Sheaf returns this year in digital format from 19th–23rd November 2020. Suzannah Evans returns as Sheaf’s Creative Director, and the festival’s Poet and Young Poet in Residence are Genevieve Carver and Lauren Hollingsworth-Smith.

Sheaf is funded by the Arts Council England, and is created in partnership with Bloodaxe Books, Carcanet Press, Hive South Yorkshire, Flourish, Konimusic, Longbarrow Press, Nine Arches Press, Penned in the Margins, The Poetry Business, The Poetry Translation Centre, Sheffield Hallam University, and the Sheffield Town Trust.

Performers will include: Mona Arshi, Caroline Bird, Niall Campbell, J. R. Carpenter, Najwan Darwish, Carrie Etter, Mina Gorji, Isabel Galleymore, Will Harris, Kei Miller, Abi Palmer, Caleb Parkin, Phoebe Stuckes, Arundhathi Subramaniam, and many more.

All events are free/PAYF (excepting workshops), and will be streamed live to YouTube Premier.

Readings, Workshops & Panels: The full programme for Sheaf [Digital] Poetry Festival 2020 is now available. The Festival is loosely centered around the following themes: Young Poets & New Voices; Poetry, Wellbeing & Mental Health; Ecopoetry & Climate Change; Poetry & Community; and Poetry & Translation.

There are 17 events across the full programme, including:

A festival launch party with the festival Poet & Young Poet in Residence, and Sufi-soul music from Sarah Yaseen;

4 x workshops: Writing the Wind; Writing for Mental Health & Wellbeing; Writing Ecopoetry; and a masterclass for poets aged 15–25;

3 x Leading independent publisher showcases including; Three Carcanet Press Poets; Nine Arches Press Primers 5; and The Poetry Business 2019 New Poets Prize winners reading;

The launch of MATTER 20 Anthology with Sheffield Hallam University;

A Hive South Yorkshire Showcase for young writers;

A panel discussion exploring the role of poetry in understanding mental health;
