Russell Watson - 20

20 years have disappeared since Russell Watson first appeared on the international charts with his debut album, The Voice. A determined title that set the Lancashire-born Tenor on a path to true acclaim. Since then he has had numerous battles, most notably with a brain tumor back in 2006, but that hasn't stopped the determined vocalist from releasing a string of chart-delighting records. As he reaches this important landmark, his latest collection boasts thirteen newly recorded songs to showcase the on-going strength of his rich vocal.

Recorded with the New Zealand Sinfonietta, 20 is a striking collection that does exactly what Watson will have hoped it would. It is striking with the depth and strength of a voice that only gets finer with age. Like a good red wine, Watson's voice now boasts new textures and tones that set it even further apart from his contemporaries.

As with all of his records, this does not tread a terrain unexpected by his listener, but it is in reworking some true classics that he really shines. His take on the classic You Are So Beautiful is truly spine-tingling, while the album peaks with the stunning Amore e musica.

20 is an album from one of the UK's finest talents. A true celebration of his talent, this is exceptional.
