Hanson Music & Arts is celebrating the launch of the new North of England Centre for Music and Arts at Standedge Tunnel in Marsden on Thursday 9th May.
The pre-launch event, which takes place from 6pm – followed by live music at 7.30 from the Budapest Cafe Orchestra – is the chance to find out what the centre’s plans are, share your suggestions and help shape the future of the historic building.

The new centre will be a home for music, poetry, theatre and visual arts, an education facility and space for performances, conferences, meetings and weddings. The centre will also house Hansons’ heritage crafts business, making and restoring traditional musical instruments, a local area museum and musical instrument museum, tourist information centre, cafe and bar.
The centre plans to continue working with the team of trust volunteers at Standedge to preserve and enhance the visitor experience.
We founded Hanson Community Arts in 2018, as a not-for-profit organisation providing music-making to the community.
Our outreach programmes provide music-making to a wide range of people in the local community and have been a great success. We want to build on this with more groups and events, as well as continue to maintain the popular visitor centre and wedding destination business already established here. We’re really looking forward to finding out what the community wants from this fantastic local resource and how we can work together to provide it to them.
