Musical Motivation: Harrison Storm

Over the past few years, Harrison Storm has crafted a singular style, merging classically inspired finger-picking and sophisticated lyrics with a rich and soulful vocal delivery that is both intimate and explosive.

A born troubadour, Harrison traded college for busking in Melbourne. The fruits of his impromptu performances financed the 2015 debut EP, ‘Sense of Home’. The latter yielded a worldwide hit as ‘Sense of Home' generated upwards of 65 million Spotify streams and counting. Signed to Nettwerk, he unveiled the ‘Change It All’ EP two years later and notched another hit in the form of the title track, which racked up over 35 million Spotify streams. Along the way, he occupied real estate on coveted playlists such as ‘Your Favorite Coffeehouse’, ‘Relax & Unwind', ‘The Stress Buster’, and more as the total stream tally exceeded 150 million and counting.

With his new single, Breathe Again, having caught our attention, we decided to catch up with him to find out what songs make him...

Smile

Neil Young - Heart of Gold

My dad used to play this song a lot when I was growing up and it reminds me of simpler times and the joy of childhood.

Contemplate

Ben Howard - Conrad

This song and album came out at a time when I was going through some big personal changes, so it naturally makes me think about where I am now.

Cry

Lady of the Sunshine - Lady Sunshine

There is a real bittersweet longing that is evoked when I listen to this song. It makes me miss something I never had.

Laugh

Lil Dicky - Pillow Talking Ft The Brain

A 10 minute journey of a song that is hilarious.

Want to work out

I dont think music often makes me want to work out but I guess ‘Morning Of The Earth’ by G.Wayne Thomas makes me want to surf and surfing is exercise so that's that.

Reminisce

Custom King - Rose Pickles

This song has played a big part in why I make music and every time I listen to it, I can remember the feeling I had when I first heard it and how much I’ve changed as a person since then.

Relax

Gregory Alan Isakov - San Luis

His album Evening Machines has accompanied me on many plane flights when I tour and settles me into a long journey like no other musician.

Feel Determined

Dermot Kennedy - Power Of Me

Nothing like the directness of Dermot's music to pull you into the moment and make you want to be a better person.

Dance

Daryl Hall and John Oates - You Make My Dreams (Come True)

Need I say more.
