Musical Motivation: Han Bloom

London based Han Bloom is a classically trained pianist and composer but decided to take the route of jazz/ prog rock/ alternative genres. Having just released her debut album, Higher State Of Mind, she has shown herself to be a distinctive artist with the ability to make poignant statements within her lyrics. We caught up with her and asked what song makes you...

Smile

Stevie Wonder - As

It makes me wanna dance.

Contemplate

Oscar Peterson - Hymn To Freedom

The pianism of Peterson captures great emotion of perseverance in times of difficulty.

Cry

Anything by Mahler!
Led Zeppelin - Babe I'm Gonna Leave You

I love the expressiveness and honesty of that track. Also the jam is sick as always with Led Zep!

Laugh

Frank Zappa - Yo Mamma

Because you should 'never smoke in pyjamas as you might start a fire and burn your face'.

Want to work out

D12 - Fight Music

Makes me wanna rip shit up and throw medicine balls really hard against walls.

Reminisce

Led Zeppelin - Going to California

I always listen to it when I am looking out a window travelling, wishing each time it would be a one way ticket to Cali.

Relax

Labi Siffre - I Got The

Not only does this track make me wanna blaze 24/7, but also it was sampled for the Eminem track, My Name Is, for a good reason. That bassline is such a good hook. I also really admire his use of instrumentation and orchestration on that track. A big production that deserves a lot more recognition. If anybody reading this takes anything from this interview, it would be to go and check out this track.

Feel Determined

Bob Marley - Jammin'

All I wanna do is jam.

Dance

Parliament - Flashlight

I love to get down to funky bass and weird song subjects. Old Skool funk is the coolest thing to whip out the two step and booty shakin' to.
