Mimi Webb is balancing two identities. To the wider world she is Mimi, a TikTok sensation who has used her platform to transform herself into a bona fide pop icon. To her family and friends, she is Amelia. An individual with as many complexities and real-life questions as the rest of us. While her career to date has focused on charge anthems surrounding bad relationship choices, her debut album allows her to move into a more intimate realm.
Alas, worry not. For those who have fallen in love with Mimi Webb for her feisty presence and no nonsense anthems, Amelia's recent singles show that these have not fallen by the way side. They are simply joined by a softer edge in the shape of key moment
Last Train To London.
While there is no doubt that Mimi has the vocals to become the UK's next big export (especially if the Eurovision rumours are true), sometimes Amelia has the potential to deliver something truly sensational, but that raw emotional edge gets lost in the over slick production - this is most noticeable on the almost excellent Is It Possible.
However, any album that contains the unforgettable
Ghost Of You, Red Flags and
Amelia is never going to be one that you file as forgettable.
