Meet Alexandra Beason Semi-Finalist The Northern Aldborough Festival's New Voices Competition

Next up in our continuing our series meeting the semi-finalists in the Northern Aldborough Festival's New Voices Competition is, Leicester born 26-year-old Alexandra Beason who studied at the Royal Academy of Music.

Q.1 What or who inspired you to become a professional musician?

I have always loved singing, acting and performing on stage. My earliest memory of this was playing the ‘true love’ in my nursery play of the song ‘12 days of Christmas’. Incidentally, my grandmother ran the nursery and always encouraged me to perform with gusto and enjoyment. She was my first inspiration and found me my first classical singing teacher at age 7!

Q.2 What are the biggest challenges you face in the early stages of your career?

At this stage of my career the biggest challenge I face is just to be heard and have the opportunity to be seen. I am so eager and ready to start my career!

Q.3 What would winning the New Voices Competition mean to you?

Winning the new voices competition would be a great honour and pride. It would be a great accolade especially as I approach the beginning of my career and graduate from the RAM this summer. It would give me some recognition at the early stages. I relish every opportunity I have to perform and that would be the cherry on top!

Q4. What would you say to audiences to encourage them to come along, and hear you sing in Aldborough?

There will be a diverse number of programmes with interesting music and quality singing. What’s not to like?

Q5. What would be your dream job in singing?

My dream for a long time has to be an opera singer performing in opera houses around the world! I would love for my job to take me to new places which will constantly inspire my singing.

Q6. What sort of music do you listen to when you are not working?

I have an eclectic taste and listen to a wide range of genres. My favourite pop artist at the moment is Lizzie McAlpine for the emotional moments- sad girl singer song writer vibes.
