This summer, LSO is releasing three new digital compilation albums delving into its rich back catalogue of recordings. The first two feature many gems demonstrating the orchestra's rich pedigree. An eclectic and well-thought out mix of repertoire taken from some of the LSO's fine performances has been put together for the compilation.

It is a great introduction to orchestral music and the music has been chosen to highlight the magic of a concert performance. For the overtures album it is the very best of musical openers. The two relatively short unknown Tiomkin pieces will delight, are jolly and energetic. With names such as Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Colin Davis, Sir John Eliot Gardiner and Bernard Haitink conducting you really can't go wrong.

It's surprising just what melodies have been used in films. The lovely opening of Sir Colin Davis's Ma Vlast is atmospheric, Tim Hugh's solo cello playing in the Bach is a joy to hear as is Barry Tuckwell's horn playing.

As a backdrop to summer these two discs so far released will be enjoyed. It will more than whet your appetite and if it does, there are lots more recordings as well as the live performances. To find out more visit the LSO website https://lsolive.lso.co.uk/
