Belly Laughing Fun Menopause The Musical 2

Rewind to ten years ago; who would’ve thought that we would be sitting in a theatre amongst hundreds of middle-aged women (and a few brave men!) watching a musical about the menopause?! This play dealt with a traditionally taboo subject with the sensitivity of a sledge hammer……and the York audience absolutely loved it!

we laughed until our cheeks hurt!
There were belly laughing moments from start to finish.
The story tells of 4 women from different walks of life heading on a cruise together, telling tales of their lives and the ‘joys’ of menopause. They hilariously talk about hot flushes, weight gain, moodiness and much more; the audience relating to every single symptom with sympathy!

When they described spatula waving woman in the kitchen screaming “Why do I do EVERYTHING round here?”, we laughed until our cheeks hurt!

Many poignant moments referring to the mourning of youth were kept light by the choice of nostalgic and upbeat sing-a-long songs. ‘Once, Twice, Three times (a Tenalady)’ was a highlight as was ‘I Need a Vino’ (instead of Hero!).

...hysterical, hormonal and emotional rollercoaster.
The four actresses were all perfect in their parts and we really felt like we knew each and every one of them within minutes of them being on the stage. Each actress brought her own unique flair to the role. They were extremely talented singers and coupled with some excellent choreography and clever comic timing, this made for a superb show.

The costumes and set were simple but effective which allowed the audience to focus on the characters themselves and the relationships they had with one another.

The moral of the story is that the menopause does not have to be the beginning of the end, but that it can be beginning of wonderful friendships; and together, friends can conquer the world. This show is an hysterical, hormonal and emotional rollercoaster.

It felt liberating to be sitting amongst woman who did not look sad, depressed or angry but more like they were having a blast with their buddies.

We left the theatre feeling totally uplifted and wanting to hug our friends.

Highly recommended!
